Actor Daniel Craig has donated £10,000 to three dads who are embarking on a heartbreaking charity walk.

The James Bond star’s generosity has boosted the fundraiser in memory of their three young daughters who each took their own lives.

Last weekend the ‘3 Dads Walking’ set off on a 300-mile trek to raise awareness of the suicide prevention charity PAPYRUS and help spare other families from the agony of losing a child.

Andy Airey from Cumbria, Mike Palmer from Greater Manchester and Tim Owen from Norfolk say the donation from Daniel Craig was a welcome surprise.

Andy said: “As dads, we have three different stories to tell but each has the same tragic ending, the devastating loss of a daughter to suicide.

“Daniel Craig has clearly been moved by the indescribable pain we, and our families, are suffering and he wants to help us to bring something positive out of the utter devastation of losing a child to suicide.

“We’d like to say a big thank you to Daniel and every single person who has supported us so far. We can’t thank you enough and every penny we raise on every step of our journey will help to save young people who are struggling with life.”

Andy’s daughter Sophie took her own life in 2018 when she was just 29-years-old.

From Cumbria, the three dads will head south, walking through South Lakeland and Lancashire to Mike Palmer’s home in Greater Manchester. Mike lost his 17-year-old daughter Beth to suicide in March 2020.

He said: “3 Dads Walking is not a club I want to belong to, but along with Andy and Tim it gives us, as fathers, an opportunity to fight back and maybe make a difference.

“We are all too aware that there are more young people out there falling into despair and see no way out other than to end their own precious lives. We hope that by linking our three homes and telling our three daughters’ very different stories we will put a spotlight on young mental health and ultimately the brutal effects of suicide.”

After leaving Greater Manchester the 3 Dads Walking will head south east through Cheshire, Staffordshire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire before arriving at Tim’s family home in King’s Lynn.

Andy Airey from Cumbria, Mike Palmer from Greater Manchester and Tim Owen from Norfolk say the donation from Daniel Craig was a welcome surprise

“I strongly believe that in a moment of darkness my daughter made a wrong decision. Two minutes earlier or later it would have been different.

“Had she just taken time to think or to speak to someone, her decision and my family’s lives would be on another path. Instead, she decided she could no longer go on, leaving behind a devastating ripple effect on her family and friends.

“She just had no idea how many lives she touched and continues to impact,” said Tim whose 19-year-old daughter Emily was lost to suicide in March 2020.

Averaging 20 miles a day 3 Dads Walking aim to complete their challenge in 15 days, finishing their journey on Saturday, October 23.

Every step of the way they will be remembering their daughters and supporting the work of PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide; promoting the charity’s belief that many young suicides can be prevented.

You don’t have to suffer in silence if you’re struggling with your mental health.

Ged Flynn, chief executive of PAPYRUS, says the walk will be a life-saver.

He added: “Andy, Mike and Tim were leading different lives in different parts of the country and would probably never have met had they not been brought together by the tragedy and trauma of suicide which has shattered their lives and the lives of those around them.

“As 3 Dads Walking they will be able to channel their energy and focus on what they can do to help save young lives. It is remarkable that these proud fathers, who are each trying to deal with their own grief in their own way, have found a positive path forward together.”

Their website contains moving tributes to their daughters, details of the route, a list of generous supporters and how to donate via their JustGiving page.

Review

In the first few minutes of The Last Castle, director Rod Lurie cheekily shows Col. Winter (James Gandolfini) listening to Salieri—on vinyl, no less, which is a nice touch. It’s a brief moment which is easy to miss, but it quickly limns the nature of the story. For all its military trappings, this is a retelling of Amadeus: a man with limited skills of his own becomes destructively jealous of a truly gifted individual. The actual narrative involves a legendary general named Eugene Irwin (Robert Redford) who is court martialed and sent to a maximum-security military prison run by Col. Winter. Winter deeply admires Irwin, but because of his own insecurities due to lack of combat experience, he feels the need to exert his authority over Irwin and the rest of the prisoners. Irwin simply wants to do his time and leave, but as he becomes aware of the sadistic treatment of the prisoners by Winter, his own natural leadership skills result in the prisoners becoming organized and forming a resistance. Winter’s initial feelings of inadequacy may be due to his inexperience, but as the film progresses, he becomes insanely jealous of the loyalty commanded by men like Irwin. While The Last Castle bears a superficial resemblance to other military films (and even has a touch of Brubaker to it), it’s ultimately the story of Salieri attempting to destroy Mozart.

The Last Castle marked the first time that Lurie directed a film that he didn’t write. In this case, the screenplay was by David Scarpa and Graham Yost, working from a story by Scarpa. That story changed significantly after Redford was cast as Irwin. In the earlier drafts, the roles end up being reversed by the end of the film, with Winter becoming sympathetic and Irwin proving to be tyrannical. While it would be fair to criticize the changes in the final draft as appealing to Redford’s vanity, the film is more thematically coherent with Irwin as the hero and Winter as the villain. Besides, the characters as presented in the finished film play to the strengths of each of the lead actors. Redford is superb as Irwin, and the part takes advantage of the natural nobility that he can evoke wordlessly—one silent closeup of Redford’s stoic face is worth pages of dialogue. Similarly, while Gandolfini was wonderful playing against type in films like Nicole Holofcener’s Enough Said, he was almost too perfect for a character like Winter. The rest of the cast is excellent, with Mark Ruffalo, Delroy Lindo, Paul Calderon, Clifton Collins Jr., and others filling out their roles capably.

The film was a box office failure, but that was at least partly due to it being a victim of bad timing when it was released on October 19, 2001. The original poster design featured an upside-down American flag, and while that was changed after the events of 9/11, this was not the kind of film that audiences wanted to see just five weeks after the towers came down, with Americans still on edge and fearing for the worst. (Unfortunately for Lurie, this wouldn’t be the last of his films to fall victim to external events, with the release of his 2020 film The Outpost being hindered by theatrical closures due to the pandemic.) Regardless of box office, The Last Castle is a memorable film which deserved a better fate than it received.

The Last Castle was shot on 35 mm film by cinematographer Shelly Johnson using Panavision cameras and lenses, and framed at 2.35:1 for its theatrical release. Paramount didn’t give any information regarding the transfer for this new Blu-ray release, but it’s a good one. Everything is clean with few signs of damage, yet the fine detail and grain is still intact, so there hasn’t been any aggressive DNR application. Johnson used a diffusion filter for certain shots which do look softer, but that’s inherent to the original cinematography. The contrast is good with solid black levels, though a few of the brightest areas of the screen can look a little blown out. The colors accurately reflect the stylized intent of Lurie and Johnson. The scenes of Winter in his office appear well-saturated while the scenes in the prison yard appear more desaturated, though that balance deliberately shifts as the story progresses.

Audio is offered in English 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio; German, French, and Japanese 5.1 Dolby Digital; and English descriptive audio. The surrounds are used subtly to provide ambience for the prison environment, and aggressively during the action scenes. There’s some deep bass in the music, especially in the track at the opening of the film. But it’s the music by Jerry Goldsmith which really stands out—The Last Castle would prove to be one of his final scores, and he had lost none of his touch. Subtitles options include English, English SDH, German, French, and Japanese. The disc also includes the following subtitle options for Rod Lurie’s audio commentary track: English, German, French, and Japanese.

Special features include the following, all are in HD (though the last three are upscaled from SD):

The commentary track was recorded shortly after the film’s theatrical release, and it was originally offered on the DVD. Director Rod Lurie discusses the script, the cast, and the Mozart vs. Salieri parallels, and the nature of leadership—though interestingly, he never mentions showing the Salieri LP. He also describes the cinematography, the locations, and how they transformed the prison which had been used previously in The Shawshank Redemption. He talks about Goldsmith’s score and how the main cue was composed on 9/11 and ended up being named after that day. It’s a solid track, and Lurie is honest about things that he wishes he had done differently. In the Alternate Ending featurette, he describes why he decided to drop the coda from the film. The HBO First Look contains interviews with the cast and crew, but it’s too short to provide much detailed information. The Deleted Scenes can be played individually or as a group, with or without optional commentary by Lurie. In it, he second guesses himself again as to whether or not he should have left some of them in the film. Included inside the package is a paper insert with a Digital code as well.

The Last Castle is one of many Paramount titles which has been missing from Blu-ray for far too long, and it’s nice to see it finally get its due with a quality A/V presentation and a decent selection of extras. The film is arguably more relevant today than it was in 2000.

Whether you live and die for Batman or if Wonder Woman’s your No. 1, it was the best day to be a DC Comics superhero fan.

The virtual DC FanDome returned for a second year Saturday, with plenty of new trailers, first looks and big news coming from the world of DC superheroes on screen. DC FanDome premiered the new trailer for Robert Pattinson’s “The Batman,” and fans saw early glimpses at John Cena’s “The Suicide Squad” HBO Max spinoff “Peacemaker,” Dwayne Johnson’s superhero debut in “Black Adam” and more.

For even more of a superhero flex, the event also included appearances from Pattinson, Cena, Johnson, filmmakers J.J. Abrams and Ava DuVernay, “Flash” movie star Ezra Miller, “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” actor Zachary Levi, and “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” stars Jason Momoa and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.

‘The Batman’: New trailer shows Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight taking on the Riddler

‘The Suicide Squad’: John Cena makes the most of his ‘second chance’ in Hollywood

Watch the entire FanDome event above and below are all the biggest highlights.

Robert Pattinson takes his turn as the Caped Crusader in “The Batman.”

‘The Batman’ drops a new trailer and some Robert Pattinson trivia

In addition to the newest trailer, a behind-the-scenes reel showcased glimpses of Pattinson, Zoë Kravitz’s Catwoman and much more from the new flick (out March 4, 2022), which finds a young Batman working out his rage and taking on a case that shakes him to his core. “So many people connect with him on such a deep level for so many reasons,” says Pattinson, a longtime Bat-fan.

He also told a story about how on his first day of work, Pattinson had to wear Val Kilmer’s rubber Batsuit from 1995’s “Batman Forever.” “It was crazy but I remember putting it on and thinking, ‘This is going to be absolutely impossible.’ I remember doing like two takes and (director Matt Reeves) being like, ‘What can we do about that sweat?’ Nothing!”

Pattinson also teases a Caped Crusader where the delineation between Bruce Wayne and Batman “isn’t so clear. He’s a little bit out of control. He gets lost in it every time he puts (the suit) on at night. He’s becoming this sort of odd creature.”

‘Shazam!’ sequel piles a ton of mythology on Zachary Levi’s hero

“You’re in store for a treat, y’all,” Levi says about the new “Fury of the Gods” sequel, coming in 2023. A behind-the-scenes reel teased bigger action and a heroic lair for the Shazam family, led by the Levi’s title teen-turned-superhero. The upcoming film will introduce a bunch of new mythological elements, including minotaurs, harpies and dragons, as well as a couple of goddesses who threaten Philadelphia and the world, played by Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu.

‘The Flash’ sneak peek shows Michael Keaton’s Batman (well, his ears at least)

Miller said he and “The Flash” director Andy Muschietti didn’t have enough footage for a full trailer but he did bring a little sneak peek at the upcoming movie (Nov. 4, 2022) with a voiceover from Michael Keaton returning as the Batman from the Tim Burton films. “You can go anywhere you want, right? Any universe? Why do you want to stay and fight for this one?” Keaton’s Bruce Wayne states to Miller’s speedster Barry Allen as fresh footage hints to the Flash’s new supersuit and time-traveling, multiverse-hopping abilities. And while fans didn’t get a chance to see Keaton in his costume for the first time since 1992’s “Batman Returns,” the teaser did show his superhero’s iconic ears from to whet audience’s appetites.

‘Peacemaker’ trailer teases John Cena’s patriotic jerk and his feathery best friend

Cena’s morally questionable patriot stole the show in James Gunn’s “The Suicide Squad” and gets not only his own HBO Max action comedy series premiering Jan. 13 but also an eagle sidekick who gives out hugs. Peacemaker’s an egotistical guy who goes to violent extremes in the name of liberty. He also has some daddy issues (with Robert Patrick as his father). But the teaser that dropped at FanDome hints that he might get some help with his attitude from co-workers such as rookie handler Adebayo (Danielle Brooks), a very green newcomer who’s only worked with animals before, and the goofy costumed Vigilante (Freddie Stroma).

Jason Momoa returns for a more mature, action-packed ‘Aquaman’ sequel

Aquaman riding a giant sea horse? Yep, that’s definitely happening in the upcoming sequel “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” (Dec. 16, 2022). Momoa and director James Wan revealed a behind-the-scenes reel featuring concept art and co-stars Patrick Wilson and Amber Heard. Wan promised a more mature followup with fun and heart taking the Justice Leaguer to new underwater worlds. Plus the Mateen’s villainous Black Adam is still on his quest for vengeance and to kill Aquaman (and also gets a cool new submarine). “I think fans are going to be very happy,” Mateen says.

Dwayne Johnson is electric in ‘Black Adam’ first-look scene

Johnson kicked off the event with a first-look scene at his upcoming superhero debut in “Black Adam” (in theaters July 29, 2022), directed by Jaume Collet-Serra. It showed the title antihero, a brutal and uncompromising figure, who reveals himself in a black cape and hood amid the depths of an ancient structure as he magically electrifies a dude into a skeleton. “It’s the kind of project that I know comes once in a lifetime. And I know I was born to play Black Adam,” Johnson says. Also impressed by the movie’s scale is Pierce Brosnan, the former James Bond who plays Dr. Fate: “I’ve never seen the likes of this before.”

Waterworld it’s a damn movie. The most expensive movie in the history of cinema in 1995, the biggest disaster of a blockbuster in a moment of splendor and the film that sank the career, the portfolio and the marriage of Kevin Costner, who had to put 20 million dollars out of his pocket to cover the extra costs. We are talking about a script rewritten 36 times and a shoot that exceeded 200 days and faced two hurricanes. All the ingredients of an announced disaster.

At the time, no one dreamed of a sequel to Waterworld Or perhaps Costner was haunted by the idea in nightmares, in any case returning to the aquatic universe has been considered for more than 25 years the closest thing to suicide. The only thing left from the movie was the myth of major catastrophes, a ruined career, and pinball machines.

But time has passed and either out of nostalgia for what was ultimately a VHS hit or because the idea of a post-apocalyptic universe with steampunk aesthetics is irresistible, or perhaps because the expectation that the poles will melt seems closer to us. that never, the fact is that Waterworld he is going to have a second life and if everything goes well it will be the first time that no jokes have been made with “making waters”. A few days ago, Collider confirmed the project to transform the film into a television series. And it will be directed by Dan Trachtenberg.

The idea has come from the same producer of the film, John Davis, and although the project is in the early stages of development it is already beginning to take shape. Davis has assured that it will not be a remake but a full-blown sequel. The series will take on the same universe after 20 years. “All those people, 20 years later,” said the producer, although he has not yet mentioned if they will repeat any of the original characters and if Kevin Costner is willing to jump into the water again.

The series will be produced by Davis alongside John Fox, who has been his producing partner at Davis Entertainment for nearly a decade. Together they have produced the Netflix movie I am dolemite and Jungle Cruise, which is currently on billboard and for rent from Disney +. They also have a director. The series of Waterworld will be directed by Dan Trachtenberg, who has become famous for his work on Calle Cloverfield 10 (2016) (aka, after seeing Paradox: “Good Cloverfield”), several episodes of Black Mirror (2011) and the pilot The Boys (2019). The three of them are together right now on the set of Skull, a new Predator movie.

From here there are many things in the air. The series does not yet have a showrunner Deputy and Davis admits that “we are not 100% sure of the focus of the series, but we are certainly building the foundation now.” Although according to John Fox we will soon leave doubts:

We are talking to people, but nobody is fixed yet. Dan is tied to the project, we are working on the story right now and we are talking to different writers. I think we should have a scriptwriter signed in in the next two weeks.

The series will belong to Universal Television, which was the studio behind the film, and the producers have already found a platform for it in streaming, of which they have not wanted to give more details.

In the movie we saw the Sailor, a nameless wanderer who sails on a flooded Earth after the poles melt. The moment the Sailor helps a woman (Jeanne Triplehorn) and a girl (Tina Majorino) find land, as reluctantly as Clint Eastwood’s nameless cowboy, everything gets complicated and they have to face the madwoman. band led by Dennis Hopper in true Mad Max style, but on water. Davis says that all of this has aged wonderfully, and the success of Mad Max: Fury on the Run confirms it.

This is the only movie I’ve made that I’ve recently re-watched and I was amazed at how well it’s held up. For many, many years I did not want to see it because I thought that the film did not work, that it was not what was in the script, that it was not as good as it should be and that it had its production problems. But then I saw it again and it was like ‘Oh, but this movie ages really well over time.’

The Flight Attendant star kicks off an Instagram Stories series with a video that shows her running on a treadmill while Eminem plays in the background. At the top, he wrote a 6:30 am timestamp and wrote: “When @ryan_sorensen shows up at your door @ 6am, you do this.”

The following is a video of Kaley doing abdominal exercises with a medicine ball (one of the simplest flat stomach exercises you can do at home, although the list is long), and you can only feel her contempt seeping into the video. The caption didn’t help either. “This ball was stupid and heavy @ryan_sorensen,” he joked.

And we see Kaley again, who is doing squats (what if you do 100 squats every day?) With one foot resting on a bench. The camera scrolls towards Bri, who is doing some kind of leg raises with a resistance band. Skip to the next scene, and Kaley is doing a pushup with her arms on a bench, while squashing some leg raises with a resistance band across her ankles. “Put stretchy band around ur ankles and lift up,” he wrote. “Yeah, it’s as bad as it sounds.”

After the retirement of Michael Caine from acting, in Out of Focus we remember his 5 best films.

Michael Caine participated in the radio program of Kermode and Mayo on the BBC, where he announced that he is retiring from acting at the age of 88 and after participating in 176 films since 1946, an event that he justified in the following way after mentioning that Best Sellers was his last acting participation:

“Curiously, it turned out to be my last role. Because I haven’t worked for two years, I have a spinal problem that affects my legs, so I can’t walk very well. And I also wrote a couple of books that were published and successful, so now I’m a writer. Which is lovely, because as an actor you have to get up at 6:30 in the morning and go to the studio. As a writer you can start writing without getting out of bed. ”

The British actor admitted that in that same period of time he has not had offers either, since no one is doing scripts starring a man of 88 years. However, we will still have the opportunity to see his last two interpretations in the aforementioned Best Sellers and a Czech historical drama titled Medieval, which will be released in 2022.

After some remarkable work during the show, Alexandra was chosen by judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith as the star pastry chef for the episode.

But one of the most surprising moments of the night was Daisy’s decision to make a toilet-shaped cake, yes, a toilet-shaped and decorated cake. While the other contestants made a road sign and a bed, Daisy chose to build a toilet to represent her fear of people leaving the toilet seat up.

When it came time to judge, Paul and Prue admitted that it wasn’t the best choice they’d ever seen, but that they liked the taste, even though there were still lumps of flour in the cake.

At the beginning of the episode, Daisy had declared her fear of “being that person, the person that everyone laughs at”, before calling her cake “horrible” and accusing her cake of having a squishy background.

But even though she’s not a Jedi Master of baking, Daisy did leave viewers enchanted with her unique creations:

The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer He returned in triumph last night with the arrival of four famous faces to prepare some tantalizing delicacies for a very good cause.

In the first episode the actress from Star Wars Daisy Ridley, the narrator of Celebs Go Dating Rob Beckett, the singer and former star of Strictly Come Dancing Alexandra Burke and the host of The Great British Bake Off: An Extra Slice Tom Allen. They all got down to business to make delicious cakes, and it’s safe to say that some fared better than others.

The four famous pastry chefs were tasked with serving various desserts, a traditional Scottish cookie and a vegan chocolate and raspberry tart, before tackling the star of the night: a tart with a very special shape.

    Channel 4

After some remarkable work during the show, Alexandra was chosen by judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith as the star pastry chef for the episode.

But one of the most surprising moments of the night was Daisy’s decision to make a toilet-shaped cake, yes, a toilet-shaped and decorated cake. While the other contestants made a road sign and a bed, Daisy chose to build a toilet to represent her fear of people leaving the toilet seat up.

Unfortunately, it didn’t turn out quite right, as Daisy declared that her cake looked “horrible” and was “insanity personified”.
