Tommy Bridewell had never won a Bennetts British Superbike Championship race at Brands Hatch before today, but the BeerMonster Ducati rider celebrated a double victory to add to his tally and be crowned the Monster Energy King of Brands winner.

After yesterday’s first win in the Championship for Ryan Vickers, the weekend featured five different riders on the podium representing four different teams and three different manufacturers.

In race two, Bridewell got his day off to a winning start as he fought to the front of the pack and then pulled the pin in the closing stages to have an edge of 2.406s at the chequered flag.

Kent had initially hit the front of the pack ahead of Christian Iddon, Vickers and Jason O’Halloran. However, the lead changed on the second lap as Iddon grabbed the advantage with a move down the inside at Paddock Hill Bend.

Kent recaptured the lead at Surtees a lap later, but Iddon instantly attacked back to put the Oxford Products Racing Ducati back ahead. Vickers and O’Halloran were equally looking for their chance to make a move, but on lap seven Dean Harrison crashed heavily at Paddock Hill Bend and the BMW Safety Car was deployed. The DAO Racing Kawasaki rider was unhurt in the crash, meanwhile Josh Owens also tipped off at Graham Hill Bend.

Iddon was then back in the lead when the race resumed, but Bridewell was moving through the pack and by lap 12 he was fighting at the front and he made a decisive move at Hawthorns to head his rivals.

Bridewell then made his charge, breaking the pack whilst behind it became an intense run to the finish with five riders fighting for the final two podium positions. It was Iddon and Kent who held the advantage to secure consecutive top three finishes backing up their podium finishes in the wet yesterday with a repeat performance in the dry with Glenn Irwin fighting through to fourth ahead of Vickers and O’Halloran.

Race three became an intense five-rider race-long fight for victory in the final action of the weekend, with it coming down to the final lap between Bridewell and his BeerMonster Ducati teammate Irwin and BikeSocial Sprint Race winner Vickers.

At the start of the race, Josh Brookes was caught up in the pack and crashed out at Paddock Hill Bend unhurt. Meanwhile at the front, Kent had dived into the lead ahead of Bridewell, Iddon and Kyle Ryde, who later retired from the race on the LAMI OMG Racing Yamaha.

Iddon then took the lead on the second lap and he was holding the advantage until lap 12 when Bridewell had edged ahead with a move at Hawthorns. The lead group had become a five-rider freight train and Bridewell was holding the advantage over Iddon, Irwin, Vickers and Kent.

Irwin moved into second at Surtees on lap 15, pushing Iddon back to third and then the Oxford Products Racing Ducati rider was under attack from Vickers who made his move at Stirlings.

On the last lap, both Irwin and Vickers were hunting Bridewell but it wasn’t enough to deny him the double victory with just 0.237s covering the top three at the chequered flag.

As Bridewell claimed a second win, Irwin fought back to finish on the podium for the first time this weekend, whilst Vickers ended the event on a high with third place.

Iddon held off Kent to take fourth place with O’Halloran completing the top five for McAMS Yamaha. In the closing stages, Lee Jackson was able to get ahead of Leon Haslam on the ROKiT BMW Motorrad with rookies Charlie Nesbitt and Max Cook completing the top ten.

“It’s been a great weekend in all aspects. To win one BSB race is an achievement so to win two in a day shows how confident I am and how I feel within myself, with the bike and with the team.

“I’m really proud of what we’re doing at the moment. I’m thinking more about what I’m doing which is allowing me to analyse more, understand more, and learn more and all of that combined is helping me go faster.

“In the final race, I knew Glenn would be there with me but it’s testament to the hard work we’re doing on Friday and Saturday that I could hold him off and it’s all about maintaining the good momentum we have. To be crowned the Monster Energy King of Brands is great!”

AMP Update as of Sunday, July 23

Shubenacadie, NS – Bridgestone Canadian Superbike Championship officials are happy to confirm that progress on ensuring the safe departure of everyone at Atlantic Motorsport Park has officially begun Sunday morning, July 23.

In conjunction with local emergency services, work has started on installing a temporary bridge on the main road in and out of the facility (North Salem Road), which has suffered significant erosion in the wake of extreme rainfall and flooding early Saturday morning.

As this is a difficult and complicated process with no estimated time of completion, CSBK officials stress that no one leaves the facility until work is finished in order to avoid delaying the exit of all involved and/or causing additional unsafe road closures.

CSBK officials will issue an update as soon as it is deemed safe to leave the facility.

This is a customary response in extreme weather scenarios like the one witnessed across Nova Scotia with record rainfall this weekend.

More updates will be provided when the temporary bridge is safely installed, at which point CSBK officials will do all they can to ensure the quick departure of everyone at AMP.

CSBK staff continue to prioritize the safety and wellbeing of everyone at the facility, and thank those for their patience during this process.

LAMI OMG Racing Yamaha rider Ryan Vickers took the victory in Bennetts British Superbike Race One Saturday at rainy Brands Hatch. It was Vickers’ career-first British Superbike win.

The race was stopped prematurely due to a red flag brought out by “track contamination,” according to the series’ official website, and because the race did not reach two-thirds distance only half points were awarded.

Lovell Kent Racing Honda’s Danny Kent was the runner-up, and Christian Iddon finished third on his Oxford Products Racing Ducati.

Americans Julian Correa and Eli Banish finished sixth and 12th, respectively, in wet R&G British Talent Cup Race One Saturday at Brands Hatch.

Vickers celebrates first Bennetts BSB win as Kent and Iddon claim first podiums in 2023

Ryan Vickers claimed his first Bennetts British Superbike Championship race win at Brands Hatch this afternoon in the BikeSocial Sprint race as the LAMI OMG Racing Yamaha rider held off Danny Kent before a red flag for track contamination. The race was not restarted and half points were awarded as two-thirds race distance had not been completed.

At the start, championship leader Tommy Bridewell launched into the lead, but Vickers was determined and as the BeerMonster Ducati rider had a big moment, he took advantage and made his move at Stirlings.

Kent was in close contention too and as the leading trio crossed the line for the start of lap three, he was able to get better drive out of Clearways to take second and ease Bridewell back into third place.

Vickers and Kent were controlling the race at the front, with a slight edge over their rivals as the pair, both fighting for their first Bennetts BSB race win, made a break from the chasing pack.

Vickers had a few moments, but he was able to keep Kent at bay, but behind Christian Iddon had moved his way into third and he was bidding to close down the pair. However, the race was red flagged for track contamination, and was not restarted due to track conditions.

That meant Vickers became the sixth different race winner in 2023 Bennetts BSB with Kent and Iddon sealing podiums for the first time this season, making it nine different riders to score top three finishes so far this year and the first in the series for the Lovell Kent Racing Honda team.

Jack Kennedy and the Mar-Train Racing Yamaha team also took advantage of the conditions, with the reigning Quattro Group British Supersport champion celebrating his best result in Bennetts BSB with a fourth place, edging just ahead of Jason O’Halloran and McAMS Yamaha.

Leon Haslam was sixth for the ROKiT BMW Motorrad Team, meanwhile Bridewell dropped to seventh, but still maintains his championship lead with 26.5 points now separating him from his BeerMonster Ducati teammate Glenn Irwin who finished in tenth place.

Storm Stacey was eighth after a hard-fought performance for Starline Racing Kawasaki ahead of Peter Hickman who led the FHO Racing BMW Motorrad Team effort.

“I am so happy to have taken my first win and I can’t thank the team enough. It is an amazing feeling. There have been times in the last couple of years when I didn’t think winning would happen again, but I had people who believed in me, and with this team and package I am in a really good place.

“It is difficult to know what a rider is doing behind you, especially in the wet as Danny was stronger in some areas, but then I was stronger in others. You don’t know when someone will make a move, but I was riding my own comfortable pace. There was one corner that was tricky, but I was consistent and I just was hitting my markers and was focused on my own race.

“I felt comfortable leading and I felt happier being there, especially in wet conditions. I could see my pit board was +0.1 and it was difficult – I just tried to make no mistakes. We feel in a good place for tomorrow, I need to thank everyone who has supported me as without them over the last few years I wouldn’t be able to experience this amazing moment and I am going to enjoy every minute of it.”

URGENT: CSBK cancels AMP round three due to extreme flooding

Shubenacadie, NS – The third round of the Bridgestone Canadian Superbike Championship at Atlantic Motorsport Park in Shubenacadie, Nova Scotia has been officially cancelled, effective immediately.

CSBK officials made the difficult decision early Saturday morning, July 22, to cancel the event for the remainder of the weekend due to a “force majeure” situation regarding extreme rainfall and flooding in the area, specifically resulting in catastrophic damage to the roadway and bridge area in and out of the facility.

The safety of all participants, staff, and fans on site remains the top priority of all CSBK officials, and anyone on site is advised to shelter-in-place while local authorities work to repair the road surface exiting the racetrack.

More rainfall is expected throughout Saturday and Sunday, with evacuation warnings in some nearby areas due to potential flash flooding, including nearby Elmsdale, Nova Scotia just outside the facility.

“This week has offered extremely challenging circumstances due to persistent rain, and local flooding is a major concern,” CSBK founder Colin Fraser said. “It has rained non-stop for the last 18 hours, and most of the staff and local racers could not access the venue due to the many damaged roads and bridges.”

“We want to thank all of our competitors and fans for their patience during this unprecedented time, and we look forward to round four at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park,” Fraser added.

It will be determined at a later date if and/or how the race and broadcast schedule for each of the seven national classes will be affected moving forward.

More details will be provided when available.

Kevin Cameron has been writing about motorcycles for nearly 50 years, first for Cycle magazine and, since 1992, for Cycle World. In my mind (not to mention the minds of lots of other people), Cameron is a national treasure, revered the world over by motorcyclists, motorcycle racing fans, industry notables, and legendary riders from Kenny Roberts, to Valentino Rossi, to Marc Marquez. When Kevin Cameron speaks, and especially when he writes, you pay attention.

Cameron was asked to fly from his home in Massachusetts out to California to attend the MotoAmerica Superbike Speedfest at Monterey where he embedded with the Indian Motorcycle/Progressive/Mission Foods team and closely studied their Indian Challenger road racers on which defending Mission King Of The Baggers Champion Tyler O’Hara and his teammate Jeremy McWilliams compete.

For a man who witnessed the birth of Superbike racing back in the late 1970s and early 1980s, the first Superbike World Championship season in 1988, and the transition from two-stroke 500cc racebikes in the Grand Prix World Championship to four-stroke literbikes in MotoGP, Cameron has chronicled most of history’s “latest developments” in motorcycle road racing.

In the first article of what will undoubtedly be several penned by Cameron as a result of his Laguna Seca race weekend, he wrote, “At MotoAmerica’s Laguna Seca national on the weekend of July 10, the top Bagger lapped quicker than Eddie Lawson did on Yamaha’s fearsome two-stroke YZR500 in the 1988 US Grand Prix.”

Cameron was impressed.

He also wrote, “Pay attention to this racing class because it has the full attention of major American corporations. It is a fast-advancing demo of all the techniques of racing development and rider versatility being applied to a class of motorcycle no one ever imagined on a racetrack.”

Cameron’s story is filled with expert analysis of what Indian Motorcycle and S&S Cycle are collectively doing to advance the state of the art of one of the world’s newest and fastest-growing forms of motorcycle road racing.

Vickers storms ahead by just 0.081s to lead opening action at Brands Hatch

Ryan Vickers surged to the top of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship Free Practice times at Brands Hatch this afternoon, with the LAMI OMG Racing Yamaha rider setting the benchmark lap on combined times in the final three minutes of the session.

Tommy Bridewell had been the target earlier in the session, but the final five minutes of the second Free Practice became an intense dash to the finish, with Josh Brookes first moving ahead before Danny Kent subsequently displaced him.

The session would still feature a shake up and Vickers moved to the top of the times with three minutes remaining as Bridewell launched into second on the BeerMonster Ducati, missing out on the top spot by just 0.081s at the chequered flag.

Jason O’Halloran had elevated himself up to third in the closing minutes, the McAMS Yamaha rider edging ahead of Kent, who in turn was just 0.003s ahead of Brookes at the end of the session, making it four manufacturers inside the top five.

Lee Jackson held sixth position on the leading Cheshire Mouldings Kawasaki, holding off Christian Iddon and the returning Danny Buchan in eighth place. Peter Hickman and Leon Haslam completed the top ten, with Glenn Irwin and Kyle Ryde making the final cut of riders automatically progressing into tomorrow’s Omologato Superpole start list.

“We were a bit unlucky at Snetterton, but it was nice to finish the weekend strong and so we have come into Brands Hatch feeling confident and good. Brands Hatch is weirdly my worst circuit on paper in my Superbike career so far! I love the circuit but it has never really clicked for me and it seems that we have come here and the guys have made changes today and we made a huge step in the second session and I felt amazing on the bike.

“I am really enjoying riding around here, it is one of my favourite circuits with a bit of everything. The Yamaha gives me the feeling. I felt comfortable with that fast lap; it’s actually funny as we have had a problem with the lap timer on the bike all day and I have not known any of the lap times I have done, so the team started putting it on the pit board for me. I learnt that maybe I should look at my lap timer less and concentrate more on what I am doing!

“The battle is going to be immense in the races here. The bikes all have strong and weak points at this circuit and I think the Yamaha seems the most balanced. I think we can have a really good chance of battling for the win and the podium definitely – there should be some great battles and hopefully we can be at the front of that.”

N2/WERA: 2 Wins, 4 Podiums as Dan Kruger continues his Winning Ways at Roebling Raceway for the Endurance/Sprint Championships

Date: July 15-16, 2023 Savannah, GA

Dan Kruger continued his winning form this past weekend on the Nature Power Superbike Kawasaki ZX-10R in the 100F+ heat to take 4 podiums including class Win (Relay) to remain unbeaten in 2023 in the N2 National Endurance Championship.  It was a 4-hour endurance event where Dan teamed up with MotoAmerica regulars Jason Waters and Gabriel Da Silva in the Relay Class.  We immediately took the lead in our class and never looked back for the entire 4 hours.  We ended up winning with an 11-lap margin over 2nd place in our class.  A big thanks to Dan’s teammates as Jason put in the quickest lap of the entire race and kept a quick pace whenever out on track.

Sunday was the WERA Sprint races where Dan managed a win and two 3rd place finishes to finish up the weekend on a high note.

We would like to thank all our sponsors including Nature Power, Mototron, Pirelli, RK, EBC, HEL, Dainese, KYT, Motul, Ktech, SK Support, Hindle, and Kinetik.

We would also like to thank the Roadracing World Action Fund for the many years they have and continue to keep riders safe with Air Fence across the country.

2024 Bennetts British Superbike Championship support class line up unveiled

Bennetts British Superbike Championship series organisers, MSVR have today announced the complete line-up of support classes that will feature from 2024, following careful consideration of the technical regulations to ensure class stability, whilst continuing to deliver close and competitive racing throughout the programme.

The announcement features the introduction of two new classes for 2024, designed to showcase and promote junior riders, offering a career path that allows development and progression through the championships classes.

2024 CLASS INFORMATION

Bennetts British Superbike Championship

In the Bennetts British Superbike Championship, the Promoter and teams will consider technical (firmware) changes and identify areas of performance and cost control. There is also a consideration to BSB “Pathway” technical level for teams transitioning from National Superstock, for their first year of BSB class competition only. This would include being on the MoTeC ECU platform but some lower regulation requirements on certain cycle and mechanical parts.

Quattro Group British Supersport Championship

For 2025, the class will fully adopt Supersport “Next Generation” technical regulations, with the expected launch of further eligible machine models. The use of “kit” electronics will cease at the end of the 2024 season. This year’s Pirelli Junior Superstock Championship will also be a pathway to the BSS Cup in 2024.

Quattro Group British GP2 Championship

There will be a further review for the remainder of the 2023 season to ascertain viability for 2024 and beyond. The Promoter does recognise the benefits of a middleweight prototype class, but further teams’ commitment to the class is a priority to confirm.

Pirelli National Superstock Championship

Series Organisers are continuing a review of technical regulations to balance machine models where required. There will also be a review of tyre material standard.

Pirelli National Junior Superstock Championship

The Pirelli National Junior Superstock Championship will not continue into 2024 as the class is confined to two manufacturers without the realistic option of more and the inability to operate a balance of performance (BoP) formula, as in BSS. Current machines/teams can transition into the BSS Cup (or main BSS Championship). All national and regional clubs will maintain a 600cc class.

R&G British Talent Cup

Despite various other Dorna promoted Talent Championships moving to Pirelli tyres, the BTC remains under contractual supply from Dunlop tyres.

HEL Performance British Junior Supersport Championship

The Junior Supersport class will not continue into 2024 – as a defacto one make series already, the Promoter has defined with Kawasaki UK a replacement machine running to tight financial and technical parameters. All national and regional clubs will maintain a class that will cater for current Junior Supersport machines.

ABK Beer 0% BMW Motorrad F 900 R Cup

Combined rider and machine weight to be implemented with immediate effect (2023).

NEW FOR 2024

Pirelli National Sportbike Championship

New for the 2024 season, eligible machines include the Yamaha R7, Aprilia RS660, Kawasaki Ninja 650, Honda Hornet 750 as well as others believed to be entering the sector. Machines will run on Mektronic ECU platform with BoP formula to manage model parity and slick tyres. Rider eligibility is a minimum age of 16 years old on 1st March 2024.

Kawasaki British Superteen Championship

In association with Kawasaki UK a high level promoted championship with manufacturer presence and support and importantly contained budget and technical controls. The machine to be used is the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4RR, which will offer a higher standard of competition material. Rider eligibility is a minimum age of 15 years old on 1st April 2024 and a maximum of 20 years old on 1st April 2024. Riders must have a minimum of a Clubman licence.

Kawasaki UK announce exciting new British Superteen class for 2024

After the highly popular unveil of the all-new Ninja ZX-4RR, Kawasaki UK is pleased to announce that it will be launching an all-new one-make series, the Kawasaki British Superteen Championship. The series will feature as part of the 2024 Bennetts British Superbike Championship calendar, giving young riders a chance to race in front of huge crowds at the best circuits in the UK.

The new Kawasaki British Superteen class will be open to riders aged between 15 and 20 and will run across eight double-header rounds, at the UK’s premier circuits, including a planned World Superbike support race.  With riders on equal machinery, the series will be a thrilling spectacle for fans trackside, while the high-revving characteristic of the 4-cylinder 400cc Supersport machine is perfect for helping young riders develop their skills as part of the world’s most competitive domestic series. The overall winner of the 2024 Superteen class Championship will receive a brand-new Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R road bike.

Each race bike competing in the series will be built by Kawasaki Team Green Technical Partner, MSS Performance, who will also offer a choice of two packages to suit every budget. Eager to make this a fair and competitive option for going racing, package prices will begin at under £12,000 plus VAT.

The series was officially launched today at Brands Hatch, with the very first Ninja ZX-4RR in the UK, which has been built to race spec, available to view in Pit Lane throughout the weekend. Members of staff from Kawasaki UK and MSS Performance will also be in attendance all weekend for any riders and teams interested in joining the Championship next season.

Ross Burridge, Head of Marketing & Racing Department at Kawasaki UK said: “As soon as we saw this model on the production plan, we knew it was destined for the race track! To have the BSB Championship promoter MSVR on board and enabling us to have a class entirely devoted to this bike is fantastic!

“We are excited to be able to offer a competitively priced and exciting race package to young riders looking to develop their racing careers. The Team Green ethos has always been about supporting young talent and offering opportunities on track, so we cannot wait to take this one step further with this new class in 2024.”

Stuart Higgs, Bennetts British Superbike Championship Series Director commented: “It is 32 years since the British circuit promoters launched the first “Superteen” Championship, and within the entry list was James Haydon, David Jefferies, John McGuiness and Michael Rutter.  We are tremendously excited to bring the “Superteen” name back to British Championship status.

“Together with our partner Kawasaki UK we are re-calibrating this most important entry level class with a new motorcycle that will benefit team and rider development, and importantly be contained to tight budget and regulations parameters.  Any major change to the championship structure is carefully considered and current Junior Supersport machines will be eligible for many different regional and national club championships.”

To find out more details on the ZX-4RR package, please contact MSS Performance on [email protected] or 01206 913216.

RADD motorcycle designer James Parker dead at 76

James Parker, the maverick designer who spent a lifetime reimagining the motorcycle, has died at the age of 76. He was struck by a vehicle while walking near his Santa Fe, New Mexico home on July 1st and passed away on July 11th.

After spending his early years in California and India, Parker graduated from Claremont Men’s College and then earned his BA in Design at Stanford University. He joined the Peace Corps, returning to live and work in India, and ultimately settled in Santa Fe upon his return. Beginning in the 1970s, Parker partnered in a custom architectural design and construction firm, creating numerous unique homes in and around Santa Fe.

Parker was a lifetime motorcyclist and ultimately became an influential player in the industry over the course of the last four decades. He founded his company, Rationally Advanced Design Development (RADD), in the early 1980’s to develop and market a revolutionary swingarm front suspension system that reached production in the 1993 Yamaha GTS1000 sport-tourer.

Parker’s design work spanned an impressive range, from a classic heavyweight American cruiser with an all-new engine design, to the chassis and powertrain layout for the Mission R electric road racer that dominated the 2011 TTXGP/FIM electric motorcycle race at Laguna Seca.

Several of Parker’s prototype machines are on display at the Advanced Design Center at the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum in Birmingham, Alabama. When not devoting his time to all things motorcycle, Parker was an avid hiker and outdoorsman who knew the Sangre de Cristo Mountains surrounding Santa Fe better than anyone else in town. James Parker is survived by his sister Cynthia, a nephew and three nieces.

Fresh N Lean Progressive Yamaha Racing’s Cameron Petersen will sit out the remaining rounds of the MotoAmerica Superbike season to focus on returning to full fitness. Together with his doctors and the team, the South African made the decision to undergo surgery to repair his wrist as soon as possible in order to return to 100%.

At this early time, there has not been a decision made for a fill-in rider; an update will follow at a later date.

“We’re bummed out that he can’t continue for the upcoming rounds, but we are encouraged that he will get the surgery that will allow him to return to 100%. We are supportive of his decision, as the injury has kept Cam from showing his full potential this season. We have not made a decision yet as far as a fill-in rider, and we will have an update to follow at a later date.”

“Unfortunately, this is not the news I wanted to give everyone, but it’s time for me to get this wrist worked on. I tried to fight through the pain and get to the end of the season with some decent results, but it’s at the point now that the pain is affecting my riding, results, and everyday life. I can’t thank the team enough for being so understanding, but I know after this surgery, I will be able to come back stronger and do my job, and that’s to win races! I’ll be back stronger than ever.”

Friday, July 7 was an amazing day for the Third Annual “Rainey’s Ride to the Races.” We had over 70 riders exploring the scenic Monterey Peninsula, taking two laps around the freshly paved WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca circuit, and enjoying a great catered lunch with the Legends. It was a ton of fun.

Following lunch, John Ulrich and Dan Argano gave an informative presentation on how the soft-air barrier systems continue to protect our riders in the road racing community, and we were all entertained by the Q & A session with the seven world-class racers. It was certainly unique and having the riders sign the commemorative posters for everybody was icing on the cake.

All of this supports the Roadracing World Action Fund, which provides for the purchase of the Air Fence and Alpina soft barriers. I think it’s amazing that because of your support, and others in our industry, we raised just shy of $100,000 from the ride.

I truly want to thank all the riders for taking part in this special event.

Additional thanks also go to our Legends for coming on the ride and for hanging out with all of us in the motorcycle community. I’d also like to thank the California Highway Patrol, Robb Talbott for his generous donation and for allowing us to stage at his museum, the Terry Vance Family Foundation, Les Stretch, and Gordon McCall for leading the ride, WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca Raceway and, of course, Moto America and the MotoAmerica team that helped make this ride possible.

See you all next year!

Wayne Rainey

Byers, CO – The fourth race of the 2023 MRA Championship Series took place at High Plains Raceway over the weekend of July 15-16th on their 2.55-mile Full Course configuration. This was a special weekend as the MRA conducted their 14th Annual 4-hour endurance race on Saturday. The event saw many out-of-town racers drive hundreds of miles to try and steal victories and capture the prize money that was up for grabs. The 4-hour endurance race was unfortunately cut short by 50 minutes as a storm brought lightning and hail into the area. Team Racing for Ray Ray took the victory in the Pony Express category (multiple riders, multiple bikes) with 99 laps completed, team Mother Lovers won the True Endurance category (multiple riders, one bike) with 96 laps, and team Legion’s Lance won the Titanium Butt category (one rider, one bike) with 86 laps.

The Race of the Rockies (RoR) Qualifying on Sunday was conducted under excellent conditions as temperatures were around 75 degrees for most of the morning. Ray Thornton claimed pole position with a best time of (1:47.58) followed by Anthony Norton (1:47.792) and Mike Applegate (1:48.428).

The start of RoR saw Applegate get the holeshot going into Turn One, followed by Brad Hendry and Norton. Applegate was looking strong as he got an excellent drive down the backstraight, however somewhere between Turns Five and 10 he made a mistake and dropped back to sixth position. Hendry led the pack after lap two and was followed closely by Norton and Thornton. By lap six Hendry had opened a three-second lead on the trailing pair, and it looked as if he had the pace to break away. By lap 11 Thornton had passed Norton and was slowly chipping away at Hendry’s lead, dropping the gap to less than half a second. Thornton was hot on Hendry’s tail by lap 13 and was piling on the pressure. With only a few corners left in the race, Hendry made a mistake and unfortunately crashed out of the lead giving Thornton his fourth consecutive RoR win of the season. Rounding out the podium was Norton in second and Applegate in third.

In Race of the Rockies GTU, Jeremiah Downing took the lead from the start and never looked back as he consistently clicked off 1:49’s on his 600. For the entirety of the race he was followed by John Borst, who was running some impressive lap times but couldn’t quite match the blistering pace of Downing. Justin Behmer carved his way through the pack and ended up in third place. Behmer had the pace to secure a second-place victory but ran out of laps before he got the chance to put a move on Borst.

Next up, the MRA heads to Pueblo Motorsports Park in Pueblo, CO for Round 5 on July 29-30 for a full weekend of racing including the SuperStreet event on Saturday afternoon. SuperStreet gives street riders the opportunity to experience motorcycle road racing with minimal cost and preparation. See https://www.mra-racing.org/superstreet/superstreet-information for details.

The MRA welcomes racers from other clubs across the nation. If you’re a currently licensed racer, we have several reciprocity agreements in place along with very competitive pricing on license & entries to our 20 classes. Click here for MRA membership & entry information.

Threats of lightning on Saturday and heavy rains on Sunday at New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville, New Jersey, July 15-16, forced MotoAmerica to reschedule what would have been the fourth round of the Mission Mini Cup By Motul series to what will now be the fifth round of the championship at NJMP on September 2.

The September 2 make-up round at New Jersey Motorsports Park will be open to all riders who were signed up to compete in the rained-out July 15-16 round.

“Unfortunately, we encountered the worst weather possible over the weekend with MotoAmerica Mini Cup,” said MotoAmerica Mini Cup series manager Cory Texter. “We did the best we could to get the program in, but Mother Nature wasn’t having it. It’s essential we get this round complete for the riders, so I’m thankful we could come up with a make-up date for those who attended over the weekend. As for the schedule, we will run a practice in the morning, followed by four races.” There are three rounds remaining in the 2023 Mission Mini Cup By Motul Series: August 18-19 at Pittsburgh International Race Complex in Wampum, Pennsylvania; September 2 at New Jersey Motorsports Park; and the series finale at New Jersey Motorsports Park, September 22-23.

EUROPEAN TALENT CUP: FIRST TOP 10 FINISH FOR AMERICAN KRISTIAN DANIEL JR

Kristian Daniel Jr finishes 7th place in a chaotic European Talent Cup race

July 16th  – Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, Spain

After securing a career best 12th position earlier in the year at Round 2 of the FIM European Talent Cup, MRE Talent Team rider Kristian Daniel Jr fought through a chaotic race this past weekend in Barcelona to cross the line in the top ten of the elite junior racing series.

The young American was showing great pace during Thursday and Friday’s practices but ended Friday with a high-speed crash in the last corner of Circuit de Catalunya, seeing rider and bike tumble through the gravel. Kristian walked away uninjured and the team repaired the Honda NSF250R in order to run a strong qualifying Saturday. Bad luck struck Saturday when during Qualifying One, two crash-related technical issues saw Kristian and team lose valuable laps while the team repaired the bike. They had another chance during Qualifying Two, but half way through the session a rock broke the radiator, putting an end to their session. Kristian finished 0.3 second away from a position that would have qualified him straight into the main race, which meant that he had to compete in the Last Chance Qualifying (LCQ) race Sunday morning in order to participate in the main race Sunday afternoon.

On Sunday morning, 24 riders lined up in the seven-lap LCQ race, where only the first and 2nd place finishers advanced to the main race in the afternoon. Kristian was in control for most of the race, except for the penultimate lap when he dropped back to sixth after being slipstreamed down the main straight. He recovered the positions in the final lap, crossing the line in second, qualifying him to compete in the main race.

On Sunday afternoon, Kristian was supposed to line up 30th on the grid for the Main Race, but due to penalties handed out to riders further ahead who were moved to the back of the grid, he started from 25th position. The young American showed his pace early on, moving from 25th to 15th by lap three. While he battled and led the second group for most laps, this race quickly turned into a race of attrition, seeing many riders either crash or make mistakes. By lap eight, Kristian was engrossed in a fierce battle against eight other riders for 11th position. During the last lap, four of the leading riders crashed out in corner 10, and Kristian, seeing this, made a daring last-corner move to cross the line in seventh position. This marks his best finish in the championship and the best result for an American in the European Talent Cup.

The following is from Ducati…

  • A record of 34,976 motorcycles were delivered globally in the first half of 2023, 5 percent more than in the same period of 2022
  • The top three markets for Ducati have grown compared to last year: Italy +10 percent, United States +11 percent and Germany +13 percent
  • The Multistrada V4 is the top-seller of the Ducati range with 6,382 motorcycles delivered so far in 2023

Following a positive first quarter, Ducati closes the first six months of 2023 reporting growing delivery figures.

The Bologna-based manufacturer delivered a record of 34.976 motorcycles over the course of the first half of the year, thus accomplishing a 5 percent growth compared to the same period of 2022.

Francesco Milicia, Ducati VP Global Sales and Aftersales: “This first half-year was Ducati’s best ever in terms of deliveries. We reached a record 34,976 bikes delivered, proving that our passionate clients continue to appreciate our product range, which is now wider than ever. The supply bottlenecks experienced last year are now over but the global competition in the market is more intense post-Covid  because of better product availability. Our commitment to reinforce the satisfaction of our Ducatisti is stronger than ever and their continuous trust gives all the people in Borgo Panigale extra motivation.”

At the end of the second quarter of 2023, Italy remains in the leading position among Ducati’s markets with 6,639 motorcycles delivered and a growth of 10 percent compared to last year’s period. The United States represents the second largest market for the company with 4,505 bikes delivered resulting in an 11 percent growth over 2022. Germany is in third position, gaining a 13 percent growth with 4,217 motorcycles delivered.

The most appreciated motorcycle in the ever-wider Ducati range is the Multistrada V4 in all its versions with 6,382 models delivered globally between January and June 2023. Ducati’s naked sports bike par excellence, the Monster, is in second position with 4,299 delivered motorcycles in the world, while in third place there is the Scrambler Ducati 800 family with 3,581 bikes.

For 2024 Ducati has already unveiled four new color schemes for its motorcycles. Enthusiasts can choose their SuperSport 950 S in the Stripe Livery that alternates white, grey and red colors, accentuating the sporty elegance of the bike. The Monster is now even more stylish thanks to the new Iceberg White color. Boldness meets performance on the Panigale V2 with the new Black on Black Livery, and the pleasure of traveling every day finds a new sporty attitude on the Multistrada V2 S with the Thrilling Black & Street Grey color scheme. And, in North America, the recent market arrival of the new Scrambler Ducati family, including the Icon, Nightshift, and incoming Full Throttle, are making a big impression. Notably, the Icon can be personalized with nine different colors.

A “press release” is promotional text issued by a rider, team, company or organization to inform
the public about an event, product, or service from the issuer’s own point of view, and if deemed
to have news value, may be placed on roadracingworld.com as a service to our readers.

A press release is not an article written by Roadracingworld.com staffers. When a post is labeled with the words “press release”, it means that Roadracingworld.com is not responsible for its content and that Roadracingworld.com makes no guarantee that it is accurate. Not all press releases are posted and Roadracingworld.com may reject press releases if the content is too heavy on commercial promotion with little or no news value or if the press release contains obvious errors.
