Smith’s story begins in Wynnefield, the middle-class neighborhood in West Philadelphia where his parents moved the family when he was two years old. “For a young black family from the 1970s, this was the closest thing to the American dream you could have “, writes about the brick houses huddled in rows. In the book, he talks about what he describes as one of the defining experiences of his life: watching, at the age of nine, his father hit his mother on the head. It was not the only act of violence that Smith saw against his father growing up, but this particular incident, he writes, “has defined who I am.” His brother jumped up, trying to intervene. His sister fled, hiding in her bedroom. Smith remembers that he froze, too scared to do anything. He never discussed the violence with his father, who defended his son’s career until he died in 2016. “My father tormented me. And he was also one of the most incredible men I have ever met.”Smith writes, noting that it was his father who instilled in him his sense of loyalty and his perfectionism. “It was one of the greatest blessings of my life and also one of my greatest sources of pain.”

For decades, Smith has viewed himself as a coward. His desire to please people, entertain the crowd and make us all laugh, he explains, is based, at least in part, on the belief that if he supported everyone, his father, his classmates, his fans, smiling, they would not violently attack him or the people he loved. If he could continue to make his mother proud through her accomplishments, he reasoned, perhaps she would forgive his childish inaction. “What you have come to understand as ‘Will Smith,’ the alien-slaying MC, the huge movie star, is largely a construction, a carefully crafted and perfected character, designed to protect myself,” he writes. Later he says: “Comedy deactivates all negativity. It is impossible to be angry, hateful or violent when you are doubled over with laughter.”

“I felt that the fact that I had completed a stage in my life and the death of my father were combined. I could never have said these things about my father beating my mother, “Smith told me.” I could never have talked about it while he was alive. “.

The process of writing a book was difficult, in part because Smith wanted to be wary of passages where his story intersected with the stories of others. When he finished the first draft of the manuscript, he summoned the people who appear most in it to Miami, especially family and lifelong friends. “I read them what I had written about them,” Smith told me. “He had to get 25 people to come to Miami and listen to what he was saying about them, because he knew they would have to live with it forever.”

It was at that meeting that Will spoke to his mother for the first time about the times his father hit her. “It was literally the first time we talked about it,” Smith told me. “She had never listened to my perception of what happened. So it was really cathartic in a way. It was great. But it was a brutal couple of weeks. It was brutal.”

The book fills in the details of Smith’s youth: how he went from rapping in his friend DJ Jazzy Jeff’s basement to winning a Grammy with him –They were the first hip-hop artists to achieve it–; how he spent his money on cars and girlfriends before borrowing a few thousand dollars from a local drug dealer to pay for his move to Los Angeles, where he ended up making a casting for the lead role of The prince of Bel Air at a party at Quincy Jones’ house. How he exploded against his first love after she was unfaithful to him; how his first marriage, to Sheree Zampino, ended under the weight of his growing ambition, with the divorce papers delivered on Valentine’s Day; and how his jealousy of Tupac Shakur, a childhood friend of his second wife, Jada, prevented him from speaking to the legendary rapper before his death.

Manson mentions that he told Smith, “One of my conditions for this to work is that everything has to be on the table. There can’t be a PR person who comes in and says, ‘No, that chapter has to go away.” Smith more than agreed, recalls Manson: “Throughout the process, certain things came up, and he would say to me, ‘Why not, let’s put it.’ I was worried that a lot of things would be eliminated. He was surprised, like, ‘Yeah, that’s kind of disgusting. Let’s just leave it there.’

The appeal trial of Moroccan journalist Soulaimane Raissouni, sentenced at first instance to five years in prison for “Sexual assault”, opened Wednesday, October 13 in Casablanca, his support committee and the organization Reporters Without Borders calling for his release.

In early July, Soulaimane Raissouni, 49, known for his editorials critical of the Moroccan authorities, was sentenced to five years in prison for “Sexual assault” after a complaint from an LGBT + activist. Facts that he disputes, assuring that he is being prosecuted “Because of his opinions”.

The trial opened, but the court decided to postpone it until October 27 “To give lawyers time to prepare the defense”, told AFP his lawyer, Lahsen Dadsi. The defense also filed a new request for the provisional release of the journalist imprisoned since May 2020, added Mr.e Dadsi.

Its support committee in Morocco, made up of several human rights defenders, denounced a trial “Political and vengeful” and reiterated its call to “Free him”, as well as Moroccan personalities and political parties.

122 days of hunger strike

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Reporters Without Borders (RSF) association hopes that this trial will “Compensate for the numerous procedural irregularities which have been observed so far” and will be “Fair and equitable”. “Soulaimane Raissouni’s place is not in prison”, added the director of RSF’s North Africa office, Souhaieb Khayati.

The journalist had been on hunger strike for 122 days to protest his detention, which prevented him from attending most of his trial hearings at first instance. After many calls from his supporters in Morocco and abroad, he ended this strike in early August and “Is recovering his health”, said his lawyer. The Moroccan authorities claim that Mr. Raissouni has benefited from a trial ” fair “ and that the prosecutions “Have nothing to do with his journalistic work”.

Two other Moroccan journalists, Omar Radi and Taoufik Bouachrine, were sentenced to heavy prison terms for sexual assaults which they deny. Mr. Radi is also charged with” spying “. Morocco occupies the 136e place out of 180 countries in RSF’s world press freedom rankings.

It’s still too early for Marvel to reveal the Avengers 5 release date. We’ve only had about a year of story development after Endgame, and that’s after a full year without any new MCU content due to the pandemic. We may not have an announcement for Avengers 5, but at least Marvel acknowledges the plans for the project. And the signs are already there, indirectly confirming that new Avengers stories are in the works. You just have to know where to look. But Avengers 5 might not be what you initially expected.

Great expectations of finals

The ‘problem’ with Endgame is that it gave fans an idea of what it feels like to have all of the Avengers joining the same massive fight. And the audience wanted more immediately after Endgame ended. But it took Marvel over a decade to get there, so now is the time to rebuild the MCU.

That’s what Marvel is doing with these early TV shows and movies in Phase 4. We’re getting to know some Avengers better than ever, as they introduce us to potential new team members and villains.

It’s the Endgame hype that partially “ruined” WandaVision for some people. They had higher expectations, as Marvel continued to tell a simple story, they needed to develop the arcs of Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany).

Marvel’s Kevin Feige addressed the Avengers 5 questions a few months ago, acknowledging that we could be in the early stages of another major Avengers story. “I think we want there to be a reasonable amount of time since Endgame to start a new saga, which is already underway and has already begun,” Feige said in an interview. And then you need time, like you did in Phase 1, to build that saga before you start bringing them all together.

Separately, Marvel wanted to tell the audience early on that the Avengers still exist as a group after Endgame. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was a place where we saw that the world still recognized the presence and role of the Avengers. But it was really Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings that solved it. One of the post-credits scenes tells us that the Avengers are actively monitoring the threats and recruiting. The band is back together forever after Endgame.

Avengers 5 doesn’t have to be another Endgame

Marvel can’t deliver another Avengers adventure of the magnitude of Endgame, not until all the pieces are available on the board. You still need to introduce the Eternals, the X-Men, and the Fantastic Four. Not to mention, Marvel is also creating additional superhero teams, including the Young Avengers, West Coast Avengers, Thunderbolts, and Illuminati, to name a few. When it comes to villains, Kang (Jonathan Majors) is just one of many big threats the Avengers might have to deal with. We have yet to see the others.

The point here is that Avengers 5 might not be another Endgame. And Marvel may not want it to be. ComicBook spoke with Eternals producer Nate Moore while Marvel was filming the movie. Unsurprisingly, the prospect of Avengers 5 emerged. Moore was careful not to set expectations at the time, in early 2020.

“I think you can, or you can’t, do you know what I mean?” Moore said. And I think Avengers 4 was called Endgame for a reason. We haven’t really talked in a real way about what an Avengers 5 would be.

Marvel plans to surprise the audience

“I think we can have it anyway if we want to,” Moore added. “We could build to do it, or we could just say, ‘Hey, here’s a standalone Avengers movie.’ And I think that as long as the story is strong and interesting enough, people will come and see it. We’re kind of nerdy, so we like to build towards things, and we like to spread breadcrumbs and see where they come from… But yeah, and I think audiences want to be surprised too. So to some extent, we don’t want to say, ‘You saw that trick, let’s do that trick again.’ What’s the new way to surprise people if, and when we made an Avengers movie, what would be the funniest version of that? «

While Moore wouldn’t have revealed anything significant, he did suggest that anything is possible for Avengers 5.

“Do you do the opposite and make the stakes really personal and small because what’s bigger than Endgame? You know what I mean? How do we make the stakes bigger than that? »Is the universe going to collapse? I do not know. Or is there another way that, ‘Oh, here’s a really smart Mission: Avengers-style Impossible movie getting smaller? Once again, we can play with all the ideas, but I feel that the door is a little open and that the public will be willing to follow us.

What seems clear is that every new MCU Phase 4 show or movie will offer a combination of heroes. Combining at least a couple of Avengers in each story seems like Marvel’s plan at the moment. We may have to wait a while for Avengers 5, but we will see several Avengers join forces before then.

Free Guy started as an experiment and ended with an unexpected blockbuster. The Ryan Reynolds-starring film is a large-scale tribute to the multiscreen generation. Beyond its game of references or the jokes to pop culture, the film also recognizes the importance of new platforms. A plot twist of considerable interest that is part of the success of the film.

Free Guy Shawn Levy has the curious honor of being a blockbuster at an unexpected time. It is, because it managed, without being particularly ambitious, to overcome the apathy of empty cinemas to arouse public interest. One of the reasons can undoubtedly be a phenomenon worthy of interest and some question from the industry. What made a movie that does not belong to a great franchise or the sequel to a great success surprise?

The reason is particular and has a lot to do with an essential element of the film. His ability to create, build and elaborate a story tailored to the multiscreen generation. The same that was educated in front of the computer, that develops spatial and numerical ability thanks to video games. The one that enjoys a virtual experience with surprising speed and sophistication.

Free Guy it is full of references to multiple video games and pop culture in general. But among the many layers of jokes, there is also a unique virtue for current films: aspiring to tell a new story. It doesn’t, but Levy and Reynolds (who also produce) put enough effort into creating something much newer. In the end, Free Guy it is a look at an unthinkable type of cinema in the transition to a possible – and not very close – end of the pandemic. An experimental, intelligent and especially one, focused on the possibility of being brilliant entertainment in its purest form.

The new viewers, the new screen hits

Free Guy it is a rare mix of various contexts. The film, which was filmed during the pandemic and had to experiment to get to the end of production, benefited from precariousness. But there is something more important in the use of resources, second speeches and the vision of an online world. Free Guy he understands better than many movies what audience he is targeting.

Created and thought for the Fornite, Twitch and Tic Toc generation, the premise is based on virtuality. And although it is a point of view already in the cinema, here the result and the reason are more specific. Free Guy analyzes the multiple relationships of this virtuality with the common man.

Guy (Reynolds) is not only the driving force behind the plot. It is also the experience of that second world online at full level. The director found a way to dialogue between that perception of the unreal world and the world of habitual things. In the same way as an augmented version of the classic video game The Sims to Second Life, Free guy explores the fact of what makes what surrounds us real. Or, rather: what builds or what sustains what we believe about the particular world we inhabit.

It is no coincidence that Free Guy is full of references to classic video games or even arcade games from decades ago. The premise opens with the enthusiasm of asking unusual questions about how we understand communication today. And the film’s script, elegantly and solidly extending into a long look at modern media, poses a simple question. What are we like, as platforms become part of our life?

Once upon a time there was a man trapped in virtuality

There is an obvious reference to The Truman Show (1998) the Peter Weir and Free Guy. Especially in the fact that Guy is convinced of the real weight of what exists and is in what surrounds him. But Weir played head-on with exploiting that notion of indirect observation. For his part, Free Guy develops a sincere dialogue with an audience that knows the codes and symbols of virtuality. Narrated in parallel with the virtual and the fictional, Guy circumvents both borders until he understands their limits.

And while Truman (Jim Carrey) battles blindly against a gigantic trap from which he could not escape, Guy can cope with what happens through his rapid learning. The character becomes the avatar of an entire audience that has spent a good part of their life, interacting through the virtual. Guy is actually the total expression of online machinery, combined and taken to a new level of sophistication.

Of course, Free Guy is also a movie that plays on conscious choice, a topic debated and discussed endlessly during the pandemic. There is an obvious questioning of the choice of space and identity. Who are we when the world around us changes completely? What happens when each piece of what we want and define us is transformed into something more?

In the manner of Phil Lord and Christopher Miller’s The LEGO Movie (2014), Guy is also a generic man in a generic life. At the same time, it is part of a monstrous and automated system. But Guy makes decisions and uniformity is left behind, resolved like a game of mirrors that Levy manages to solve successfully. Guy is a character who might just fit in, but doesn’t want to. Hasn’t that been the discussion and insistent perception about what happens in a stage of restrictions on freedom and movement?

Free Guy is perhaps the best tribute to a generation that knows, handles and enjoys virtuality. But beyond that, it is also celebrating a new kind of way of communicating. Perhaps, the secret of its success is a combination between both things. In a renewed look at the screen and interactions as a form of language. His greatest strength.

The second runway on day one of the fashion Week, which took place on one of the beautiful balconies of the hotel Four Seasons, was in charge of Pink Magnolia, the fashion brand of designer Paola Wong, which, honoring the name of the firm, the color pink is always present in all shades for its proposals.

The designer presented skirts and pants full of sequins, mini tube-cut skirts, long tutus, dresses, jackets and shorts, some caps, neon-colored shirts, trousers in metallic colors, dresses with huge and tender collars, sweaters and sets full of hearts, which are the main hallmark of the brand.

Pink Magnolia is one of the firms that year after year have been present at this fashion week since its inception. His presence is important because he speaks to the young public who take risks with bright tones and who are not afraid of new proposals such as what he presented us: tailored suit consisting of shorts and a transparent jacket or navels with the bra worn above the top .

This firm is characterized by having embroidered hearts and smiley faces in its textiles, as well as a bear that we can see in some sweaters and its iconic “Rebecca Dress” now in pink and lilac tones, inspired by her little niece. The designer has taken it upon herself to preach with the message that colors change the mood. And when you see any Pink Magnolia garment, it will catch your attention either because of the color or because of how romantic the clothes are.

Pink Magnolia en Fashion Week

Pink Magnolia, was the second catwalk with which the XV anniversary of Fashion Week Mexico was celebrated, this brand that was born in Mexico City through its social networks shared the message of inspiration with which these proposals were made: “A love letter for Mexico and the world. With great excitement we present Colors. A new evolutionary stage, a rebirth… a new strength and hope for the new present ”.

On this occasion, he brought to Mercedes Benz Fashion Week a range of colors that go from the traditional pinks to lilac, lemon green, yellow tones and the sequins that always steal our attention to observe the pieces.

One of the characteristics that Pink Magnolia also has is that beyond focusing on a trend such as spring, summer, autumn and winter, it focuses on urban use, on what young society needs to wear, always taking into account some cuts from bygone eras such as in this case the decade of the 80s, in order to mix it up and bring creative proposals to the catwalks with the full extent of the word.

As Macaulay Culkin broke her heart, she shrunk that of viewers of several generations by claiming the glasses from her ill-fated confidante. The premiere of the popular 90s melodrama My girl, about two pre-adolescent friends who during the summer of 1972 must deal with the rigors of the leap into adulthood and their relationship with love and death, turned its young protagonists into two undeniable Hollywood stars. But while we learned in detail the controversial adventures of the popular Culkin; Anna Chlumsky, the true star and revelation of the film, never again enjoyed the honeys of fame. What happened to her?

At 39, Chlumsky is clear about the reasons for his sudden volatilization of the industry, when he was one of the great promises of the film mecca. “I entered puberty and was no longer cute on screen”, stated in an interview with the BBC the native Chicago performer, admitting that her premature retirement was not voluntary but forced. After My girl and its sequel, a Chlumsky already in full adolescence was rejected in dozens of auditions, among which was that of a promising project called Jurassic Park. “Those negatives left their mark on me because when you’re a teenager it’s less fun to be told that you don’t like you anymore.” Tired of casting directors closing their doors on her, she decided to take an indefinite break.

Chlumsky, 16, was retired from an industry in which she had started as a child model with just ten months of life. After starring in a blockbuster that grossed more than $ 120 million, She became an anonymous student again and thought she would never be an actress again. At the University of Chicago she graduated in International Studies and met her husband and father of her two daughters, Shaun Ho. He moved to New York and entered the job market hand in hand with the publishing world: as a food critic – his father is a chef – in a restaurant guide and as an editorial assistant for HarperCollins, specializing in the genre of fantasy and science- fiction. “I spent all day with princesses, aliens and goblins”, Explain. Despite her work at the label, Chlumsky did not feel fulfilled and, motivated by the Broadway plays that she devoured as a spectator, she decided to enroll in acting classes and give her childhood trade a new chance.

It didn’t take long for him to regain his form. In 2007 he began to get small roles in television series and his meeting shortly after with the prestigious screenwriter Armando Ianucci forever changed his luck. The Scotsman counted on her to be part of the cast of In the loop, a political satire that would become one of the most critically acclaimed films of 2009. Three years later, he called her again to offer to be part of the series’ cast. Veep. Chlumsky has played the chief of staff of the vice president of the United States played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus during the seven seasons aired on HBO of one of the most celebrated comedies on recent television. A work that has earned Chlumsky up to six nominations for best supporting actress at the Emmy Awards. And despite the stony road, he has ended up placing it in the place in Hollywood that anticipated its meteoric start.

Despite the cinematographic nature of her redemption story, for her, the ups and downs of her career in the show business They are not far from what any twenty-year-old who seeks her way for years lives and, with fortune, ends up finding it. “I’m glad I took that step aside. It gave me the perspective I needed to come back for all the right reasons”, He stated in an interview with the US edition of Esquire.

Once settled Veep, the next thing in his career will be a leading role in one of the most anticipated series of 2021: Inventing Anna, produced by the almighty Shonda Rhimes (Grey’s Anatomy). Netflix fiction will tell the true story of Anna Delvey, a young Russian of humble origins who at only 26 years old managed to rub shoulders with the elites of Manhattan by posing as a wealthy German heiress and weaving a web of lies that would end up leading her to prison. Chlumsky will play a transcript of Jessica Presler, the journalist of the New York Magazine that uncovered a good part of the case and that also signed the story of another recent success, that of the film Wall Street scammers. If the interpreter is looking for documentation to face the character, perhaps she can ask for advice from her former co-star Macaulay Culkin, one of the closest friends of the scammer now behind bars.
